Player’s Story
I have always been a baseball fan. From playing Tee-ball & Little League as a kid. That was some of the most fun I had growing up. During my last game, I was pitching, and I couldn’t see the ball come back to me. Unfortunately, I was hit in the noggin. Ending my baseball career, or so I thought. I was diagnosed with RP at the age of nine. I then took up music. I learned to play piano, drums, guitar and my main instrument the 5-string bass guitar. I have played on many bands over the last 30+ years. Eventually I decided to find a more conventional job. I moved to Cleveland and began training on the JAWS program at the Cleveland Sight Center. I have been there now for 8 years. While working one day. I was told that the Cleveland Scrappers were having a Beepball meeting. “BEEPBALL “? I asked. That is when I met, future Hall of Famer, Wilbert Turner. He made all my boyhood baseball dreams come true. From that day forward, I have been that 12-year-old Sandlot baseball, Bad News Bear wanna be. This opportunity has allowed me to meet many other blind people outside of my own family. They have become like family as well. My teammates are the Best! They accept me for who I am. Love this sport, love this team!
